The winter months can be harsh on your menatl health and wellbeing. With evenings get darker and colder this can affect your mind, body and soul and with the cost of fuel rising it's a worrying time for everybody but winter doesn’t have to be a miserable time of year.
Here are our top tips for looking after yourself and making winter a season of fun and festives.
- Stay hydrated
I don't know about you but I struggle to stay hydrated but winter is the perfect time to check out some herbal teas, they don't have to be expensive infact my personal favourite is Immune by Diplamat from Aldi with ..... And in the evening the Sleep with Camamile... I am partial to some hot water with a few drops of lemon during the day and addding touch of Honey in the evening. herbal tea benefits may include reduced inflammation, stress alleviation, immune system support and more. Although more research is needed to identify all of its benefits, tea is a great addition to a healthy eating plan as well as boosing your energy and mindset.
- Make cosy soups and boost your immunity
I know it doesn't sound very glamorous but now is a great time to dig out some recipes and make a big bowl of comforting soup, a great way to eat more immune-boosting vegetables, herbs and spices, a Win Win! Also would be a great time to dust off your slow cooker, it's great to make lovely warm casseroles and if you've not got one yet you can pick them up at a really decent price you don't need anything expensive or fancy and it could save you money in the long run and help you stay healhy at the same time.
- Keeping warm
Did you know that bleeding a radiator is a common cure for when your heat is on but some rooms aren’t getting warm. If your radiator feels cold at the top but warm at the bottom, it’s a sign that there’s some air trapped inside which can stop it working as well as it should. It can be fixed easy enough you'll just need a radiator key, you can pick one up quite cheaply at any DIY Store on online, If your radiator has a valve slot it in, you may even be able to use a flat head screw driver, if you get stuck there are lots of videos on YouTube that can show you how it's done.
Block your draughts:
Draughts from windows, letter boxes, doors and loft-hatches can all let heat escape, meaning your boiler has to work harder for longer to heat your home just the way you like it, I have an electric cupboard in the hallway and sometimes if I leave it open I can really feel the draught so it's definitely worth checking for any draughty areas.
Did you know that if you turned down your thermostat by just 1 degree you could save up to £65 per year on average for a typical home.
Something I'm guilty of is turning off the hearing when you don't need it! Instead of leaving it on all day why don't you heat it for just a few hours and then turn it off until you really start to feel the chill again? Smart meters are a great way to manage your daily budget and keep track of what you are using.
- Saving Energy
I hold my hand up to this! over charging your phone, laptop or Ipad, Getting into the habit of unplugging will save you energy, and it also prolongs battery life. It can also save you up to £80 per year for an average house hold!
With the cost of living crisis and energy the way it is at the moment now more than ever people are looking for ways to keep warm in the most cost effectively way.
